Preparing your visit:
In preparation of your visit it is advisable to send a written enquiry – either by letter or e-mail (poststelle@lakd-mv.de) – stating the topic of your research. We will help you identify collections and documents you might want to consider. This can take some time.
You should also check our online catalogue http://archivdatenbank.landeshauptarchiv-schwerin.de to see the options which are available. Here you can find the descriptions of many though not all of our collections. It is constantly updated with new data.
We cannot undertake any research or view documents for you. If you are unable to attend the reading room yourself, you can either order copies (number can be limited depending on the capacity of the photo laboratory) or we can recommend experienced researchers, e.g. on genealogical questions.
Booking your visit:
It is necessary for you to book a seat in our reading room in advance, either by letter, telephone or e-mail. Bookings for microfiche readers must be made separately.
phone: 0049-385-588 79421
e-mail:lesesaal@lakd-mv.de
You can order up to 20 documents per day.
Many documents are stored offsite. We require about a fortnight’s notice for delivering and preparing the orders.
You can use your hand-held camera, phone or tablet to take still images of documents. Flash photography is not permitted. Copyright applies to all records; please ask a member of staff for details. Remember to note down reference numbers of documents. We cannot help you to identify them later.
Order forms for digital or paper copies can be found at the help desk.
The reading room is under video surveillance.
